In the course of his military career, Chew has held amongst others, the appointments of Head Naval Operations Department; Fleet Commander; Head Joint Plans & Transformation Department; Commander for the RSN's 1st Flotilla; Commanding Officer for the RSN's 188 Squadron, Commanding Officer for Victory-class corvette RSS Vigour (92) and as Executive officer for Sea Wolf-class missile gunboat RSS Sea Lion (P77). Chew has since become the Chief Executive Officer of the Public Utilities Board (PUB), Singapore's national water agency.
