| - RiFF RaFF (also known as Jody Highroller) is a rapper from Houston, Texas. He is most known for his affiliations with Soulja Boy, Three Loco and his many music videos on YouTube. A fictionalized version of him is slated to be portrayed by James Franco in a film starring Selena Gomez and directed by Harmony Korine. Career Riff Raff's earliest known social media profile as a rapper is on MySpace, where he originally assumed the name Kokayne Dawkins. Other than the difference in name, his persona remains roughly identical as of 2012. Riff Raff's first public appearance was not as a rapper, but as a contenstant on the 2009 MTV reality show From G's to Gents. Though he was eliminated from series on the second episode, he used this exposure to publicize his career as a rapper. After two years of heavily engaging social media, he was signed to the Soulja Boy's SODMG label in 2011, causing him to shift his official rapper name from MTV Riff Raff to Riff Raff SODMG. Since this time, Riff Raff has collaborated with a large range of personalities, including Lil B, V-Nasty, Lil Debbie, Action Bronson, Chief Keef, Pimp C. and Kitty Pryde. He is now also a member of the group Three Loco, known for the single Neato. Riff Raff's persona as a rapper can be best described as nostalgic pastiche for late '90s and early '00s Houston Hip Hop, with heavy reference to DJ Screw, DJ Michael Watts, and the Swishahouse record label. His lyricism focuses on imagery and aesthetics that often dates him ten years older than his actual age, while positioning himself as a true-to-life Houston thug. Technically, Riff Raff is a notoriously skilled freestyler, as mentioned by a number of news outlets, and exhibited in several World Star Hip Hop exclusive videos. Riff Raff's unique angle and mysterious attitude towards interviewers has resulted in a number of Gawker articles attempting to unravel the artist behind the character, in which they refer to him as "The Most Viral Human Being in Music". The news and gossip blog went so far as to include a feature on his many tattoos. Social Media Involvement Riff Raff, like many of his contemporaries in hip hop, aggressively engages social media as a manner of self-promotion. Because of this, Riff Raff is considered by many to be a "viral rapper". Much of his viral video work is exclusively published by World Star Hip Hop, but he maintains his own YouTube account as well. Riff Raff is the originator of a Twitter meme where he analogizes himself to being the rap game's version of a certain individual. References
