Synopsis
  • In their attempt to rescue Dr. Amadou Mambety from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the Birds of Prey have run afoul of the Suicide Squad, who had the same thing in mind. Naturally, Batgirl has no interest in giving up her charge to a team that includes someone like Harley Quinn. Harley takes offence, and the two teams are soon in battle. Soon, Bartgirl regrets her hasty words, but it is Black Canary who puts a stop to the fight with a commanding tone. She demands that she be given access to Amanda Waller, whom she knows gives the Suicide Squad its orders. When Waller reveals herself - against Deadshot's warnings - she admits that she received the message that Dinah sent for her through Condor. The message had read simply: "I have Kurt Lance." The Squad recognizes the name as that of the man whom Regulus had stolen from them when Waller had ordered them to find him. Ignoring them, Amanda demands to know what Dinah had wanted in getting her attention. Dinah responds that she just wanted her, and grabs her up, soaring off with Amanda in her arms. Realizing that if Waller dies, they will die, the Suicide Squad gives chase, prompting yet another fight with the Birds of Prey who hope to give Dinah the time to work out whatever this grudge with Waller is. Dinah drops Amanda on a roof, and she admits that she rescued her former husband from Regulus, who had told her that Amanda had kept Kurt alive all this time, but had never told her about it. Amanda explains that Kurt was dead. She had found his body in the ruins of Gamorra Island, and brought him back to life using technology developed from Resurrection Man's abilities. Dinah is still angry, because Amanda had let her go on thinking she'd killed Kurt - that the Black Ops community had been hunting her. Amanda responds that the Black Ops were after her because she destroyed an island with her Canary Cry - not because she'd killed Kurt. It had been Kurt who triggered that power in her, and Amanda couldn't see the benefit of letting them get close to one another again when so much destruction had been caused by their proximity. Dinah is still too angry to listen to let Amanda go on that alone, and so Amanda agrees to tell the whole truth - but it will be uglier than Dinah may want to hear.
