| - Former Liberal Party Leader Philippe was born in New Liskeard Ontario during a family vacation in Ontario. His father, Pierre Thériault was regional manager of Manitoulin Transport for Northern Quebec. His mother, JoAnne Paquette, was a telephone operator before she had Philippe. He was their only child. While attending Université Laval Philippe became an outspoke critic of the student administration which focused on student debt. Phillipe believed that he was able to go through school from a working class family on his own and looked down on students who looked to their parents or the government for complete support while in school. During his fourth year his mother was struck by a drunk driver and his father suffered depression as a result. During his graduate studies in business at McGill University Philippe had to travel back and forth from school to home to help around the house and with his father. At the end of his graduate studies a somber Philippe reflected on the financial stresses of being a student and an informed citizen of the world. After graduating his father and his good friend in graduate school Matt Gerard started a trucking company called Thériault Couriers. Philippe won the name sake in a game of cards. After working in the company for five years he sold his share to his friend and purchased several real estate properties around Montreal. He continues to rent these apartments and houses out however the company is managed by his wife Ivette. Philippe entered politics in 1988 on the urging of several of his former Young Liberal friends. Philippe earned his candidacy speaking on the Canadian economy and Federalism. He remains a strong advocate of business growth and development -- especially for small and medium sized businesses -- in Canada. He also believes that Canada can not achieve economic stability and prosperity without Quebec and Quebec can not do the same without Canada. Philippe once attended a separatist rally while in University but left early after a heated exchange between him and one of his separatist classmates. Philippe's friends describe him as a very outgoing person who is never too busy to stop and say hello. Philippe often boasts that he has never lost a tenant in any of his apartments because of a disagreement. His wife is more reserved and is often described as the strong source of inspiration and influence to Philippe. Thériault, Philippe Joseph, MBA, MP; investor; b.
