The Supplementary Medical Holographic program ('SMH) was an upgraded version of the EMH program developed by Dr. Lewis Zimmerman after the return of the USS Voyager to the Alpha Quadrant. Based on the increased capabilities of Voyagers EMH, The Doctor, the SMH was meant to be more than just a stopgap measure and was intended as a full complement to chief medical officers everywhere. The SMH was based on Zimmerman's previous work on the Long-term Medical Holographic program. The USS Remington was one of the first vessels to carry an SMH program. (Star Trek: Remington)
