The Frankish War was a conflict occurring between 681 and 689. It pitted the new coalition of the Empire of the West, the Byzantine Empire and the Saxon Empire against the Merovingian Frankish kingdom. This was one of the first and main events in the conquest of most of Europe by these powers; by its end, Saxony won the lands east of the Seine and Rhone and Lombardia the rest of Francia but Marseilles and Aquitaine.
