The series was produced in close physical contact with the Discovery Channel, widely known for its graphic depictions of animals 'doing it'. It was later shown on Animal Planet, the Spice Channel and several erotic websites on the internet. Part of David Attenborough's 'Sex' series, it was preceded by The Private Parts of Plants and The Sex Life of Birds (1998), and followed by Sex in the Undergrowth (2005).
