In 1930, the Imperial Dominion Act led to the existence of Dominions. The aim of the act was so that France could prevent the independence of her territories and still be able to hold onto them. Other benefits including allowing other ethnicities to hold positions in society, government, and the economy, allow them to have their own militias (though size is limited by the French), and be able to establish their own parliaments, replacing the colonial government.
