- In Mesopotamian mythology, the god of disease and pestilence. He was a minor god of the Underworld (Irkalla, Kigal). He would also act as a messenger and chief minister for Ereshkigal, the queen of the Underworld and Nergal, the king of the Underworld. Namtar has the variant spellings Namtaru, Namtara. A modern incarnation of Namtar can be found manifested in Zaon's mom.

- Namtar appeared in the Farscape episode "DNA Mad Scientist". He takes DNA samples of the crew and claims he can locate their home planet in his vast DNA database. As payment for this service he wants one of Pilot's arms, after getting it he gives them the crystal that contains the starmaps for Zhaan, Rygel and D'Argo's planets. Kornata helps mix a potion to revert Namtar's genetic changes and by that rendering him harmless.
- Namtar, the Visage of Death is one of the Apocalyptic Forms available to the Fallen, specifically those of the House of Halaku. The Namtar are silent, black-winged creatures wrapped in robes of mist. No matter how gentle and safe a Namtar acts, the form of death strikes fear into those who see it and are not prepared for it. When they become consumed with Torment, their presence saps the life from everything around them, they become cloaked in shadows, and they don't feel pain, love, or much of anything anymore.
- Namtar was the creation of Kornata, a brilliant scientist who strived to increase the capabilities of species and understand the genes of creatures. Her idea was to expand the intelligence of her test subjects and try to make it somehow better. It worked and after slowly increasing its intelligence, the creature, whom she had named Namtar, was able to eventually learn by itself, broadening its intelligence on its own until it had surpassed the scientific team. Namtar became a genius in his own right in a short space of time, and learned new things. Namtar overpowered the scientific team and trapped them on their base, conducting experiments on them as they once did on him, forcing Kornarta to serve as his assistant. Namtar began his own, devastating experiments in the pursuit of perfection
