The College Principal was the head of the educational establishment where Tony Parsons had gained a musical scholarship. He hosted a concert evening to which a grateful Mrs Parsons escorted Ena Sharples who had done much to encourage the young boy's talent. The Principal announced Tony on the stage, after stopping the previous performer from taking too many bows. He told that audience he was doubtful at first to ask Tony to play that night as it seemed too soon after he joined them and music needed time, patience and practice. However he had made such progress in so short a time that he had no hesitation in saying "yes" to him taking part. He announced that Tony would play the Trumpet Tune and Air by Purcell and To A Wild Rose by MacDowell. Ena's constant smile showed how much she enjoyed
