- The Big Apple is a huge apple located in New York City in New York. It is located near the Statue of Liberty. Its location is a joke with the fact that New York City can also be called "The Big Apple".

When the player begins a game with Big Apple activated, one of three special starting layouts appears. All three configurations include unique red gems that resemble apples; these function identically to Flame Gems. The base value for clearing an apple is 50 points. While Big Apple is active, apples replace random red gems throughout the game, and Flame Gems created using red gems become apples instead.

Comment from reader Scott Butler on : "Accoring to David Ellis's Lonely Planet 'New York City' guide () (1st edition, Sept. 1997, p. 11), NYC was named so not because of jazz musicians, but because a writer covering horse races in 1920 (named John FitzGerald) repeated in the 'Morning Telegraph' what stable hands in New Orleans referred to a trip to a NY racecourse as the 'Big Apple', or greatest reward for any thoroughbred. The city government has agreed to this story, and all public tourist literature has been amended to reflect this."

After the Last Hurrah, a Coin bonus occurs in which nine apple icons appear in a 3×3 arrangement. When the player selects an icon, it reveals a numerical Coin value that is then added to the player's Coin total. The Coin payouts the bonus offers are 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 7,500, and 10,000. The 2,000- and 5,000-Coin payouts repeat three times each.
