A custom text macro is a line of text assigned to a quickslot. When the quickslot is used, this text is processed the same as text entered into the chat bar, with the exception that the channel defaults to "shout" (heard by every player on the server) rather than the channel selected to the left of the chat bar. For this reason, the channel switches (listed in the chat bar article) are useful. One often overlooked feature of custom text macros is the ability to specify a console command by starting the text with two hash marks (##).

  • A custom text macro is a line of text assigned to a quickslot. When the quickslot is used, this text is processed the same as text entered into the chat bar, with the exception that the channel defaults to "shout" (heard by every player on the server) rather than the channel selected to the left of the chat bar. For this reason, the channel switches (listed in the chat bar article) are useful. A custom text macro is created by right-clicking a quickslot and selecting "Custom Text Macro". The first window that appears requests a label for this macro; the label will be displayed in the quickslot. The next window requests the actual text for the macro. Both label and text are limited to the width of the input field, roughly 45 characters. (The exact number of characters allowed depends on the width of the characters, as the limit is the width of the field, and different characters are different widths.) One often overlooked feature of custom text macros is the ability to specify a console command by starting the text with two hash marks (##).
