He monitors the scale located in a special cave that contain two precious gems that hold the balance between truth and lies: the Topaz Of Truth and the Diamond Of Deceit. When one of the gems is broken, the balance between the two is disrupted, which means people in the world can either only speak the truth or only speak lies, depending on which of the two gems was broken. In the episode, Gargamel and Sassette had accidentally caused the Topaz Of Truth to shatter, which resulted in the people of the world only being able to speak lies. To reset the balance, the two had to work together while tethered to each other in order to find the other topaz in the Temple Of Hidden Truths, which in the possession of its holder would cause that person to speak hidden truths. When Gargamel held that particular gem, he revealed his true evil nature and intentions to Sassette, which made the little Smurfling realize that her "creator" never truly loved her. As Gargamel tried to chase after Sassette, he accidentally knocked over the scale, and although he managed to save the Diamond of Deceit from destruction, the scale was in pieces, which angered the Spirit enough to zap lightning bolts at the wizard. The Spirit later made Gargamel hold both gems while he repaired the scale, which, according to him, would take a few weeks, much to Gargamel's dismay.
