Tiro Maathkes was a male Vuul officer of the Golden Empire's Royal Navy. Born on the Vuul homeworld of Yin, Maathkes had spent decades as an officer with a commercial fleet flying trade routes between Yin and its allies, Keliso, Tershin, and Iscandar. In his late forties, he began to consider a career in Yin's small defensive fleet instead. At the age of sixty-one, he acted on this decision, accepting a commission as a patrol craft officer. By 95 ABY, he was the captain of the fleet's flagship.

In his late forties, he began to consider a career in Yin's small defensive fleet instead. At the age of sixty-one, he acted on this decision, accepting a commission as a patrol craft officer. By 95 ABY, he was the captain of the fleet's flagship. In that year the Golden Empire acquired Yin. Rather than allow a long, deliberative Vuul thought process, Tariun Sakaros simply announced that he was transferring Maathkes's commission to the Royal Navy. Though slightly flustered, the Vuul accepted the rank of Counter Admiral, serving as an advisor to the senior leadership of the Empire. As the Empire retreated in the Great Liberation after the calamitous Battle of Hudrel, Maathkes suggested baiting the Tetrarchy of Mezlagob into overextending itself in the Romasi sector. When Rin's other advisors shot down the plan, they and Maathkes instead developed the attack strategy for the Battle of Tizgo V. Maathkes was present for the dedication of Keltrayu's Tomb on Keliso after the war.
