Hurricane Iaoke was a powerful category 4 hurricane that was the first tropical cyclone to make landfall in California at hurricane intensity. The hurricane first formed near Panama on September 6th, the storm persisted and became a hurricane near southern mexico on September 8th. The storm continued intensification untill becoming a category 4 hurricane on September 11th. The storm persisted north but kept hurricane status due to a unusually warm California current. The storm made landfall in California as a category 2 hurricane on September 14th. The storm dissipated over land on September 15. Iaoke caused 98 Billion dollars in damages most in Los Angeles. 877 People died from Iaoke. It was retired and replaced with Ioda for the 2020 season.
