Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Assheton Pownall (3 October 1877 - 29 October 1953) was a Conservative Party politician. The son of Charles Assheton Whately Pownall and Dora Bourne née Royds. Following education at Rugby School, he entered business in the City of London and was an underwriter at Lloyd's of London. He sat as a Municipal Reform Party member of the London County Council representing Lewisham from 1907-10, and was vice-chairman of the Highways Committee. He was Master of the Worshipful Company of Vintners for 1942 and 1947.

He sat as a Municipal Reform Party member of the London County Council representing Lewisham from 1907-10, and was vice-chairman of the Highways Committee. In 1910 he was unsuccessful Conservative candidate for the parliamentary seat of Bermondsey, Rotherhithe. During the First World War he saw service in the 20th Battalion, London Regiment. At the 1918 General Election he was elected member of parliament for Lewisham East. He was knighted in the 1919 New Years' Honours. He held the the seat until 1945 when he lost the seat to Herbert Morrison, as the Labour Party won a landslide majority. He was Master of the Worshipful Company of Vintners for 1942 and 1947.
