Synopsis
| - After Iron Man destroys an electrified wind tunnel testing his armor, Stark and Rhodes find that an elderly woman is waiting outside Stark's office, insisting she needs to see Iron Man. Tony recognizes her as the underworld Queen Kala, much aged since he last saw her, and she asks for Iron Man to help her beloved Mole Man and his Subterraneans against the Deviants. Stark's temp secretary, Mrs. Podnik, also gives Stark a message from Jarvis saying that the Avengers have failed to return from a trip underground, seconds before the building is attacked by the Mole Man's outcasts. Iron Man defeats Boulder and Water Witch, but Digger and Landslide escape with Kala. As Iron Man chases after them, Kala's captors remind her they're under standing orders by the Mole Man to return her to Subterranea, despite the current situation, but she convinces them to detour to her old Kingdom, the Netherworld. However, when they arrive the Netherworlders confront them, reminding kala she was exiled on pain of death, they open fire; luckily Iron Man arrives just in time, blocking the shots with his own body. In self-defense, Digger and Landslide attack the Netherworlders, damaging her city, and accidentally causing an earthquake which Iron Man averts. Having been exposed to the Netherworld's age retarding atmosphere, Kala de-ages and the Netherworlders hail her as their Queen again, preferring her rule to being attacked by her allies. In the confusion, Digger and Landslide flee. Saying that the Netherworld is no longer her home, and that she wants to help the Mole Man, Kala has Iron Man take her back to the surface, even though leaving the Netherworld swiftly causes her to revert to her aged form.
