Strictly speaking the game is a port of Global Defence Force Portable rather than the original game. Portable (which certainly seems an appropriate title) was a Japan-only PSP version which included additional weapons for the two classes and seven new levels, all of which are present and correct in IfPS. It also features a multiplayer mode and a new English dub (the EU release of Global Defence Force had no speech). It is rated T for animated blood, mild language, and violence.

  • Strictly speaking the game is a port of Global Defence Force Portable rather than the original game. Portable (which certainly seems an appropriate title) was a Japan-only PSP version which included additional weapons for the two classes and seven new levels, all of which are present and correct in IfPS. The game follows the tactic of Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable of reworking the original title in such a way as to introduce an additional class - in this case, the Air Raider seen in Earth Defense Force 2025 - bringing the total number of playable classes to 3. The IfPS Air Raider is a cut-down version of the class without the ability to summon vehicles and with different strike options, hence his having a separate page to the 2025 class; the Impulse mines and C Bombs are also given back to the Infantry class. The giant insects are officially referred to as "Buggernauts" as opposed to "Gigantors" in the original translation. It also officially dates EDF 2 to take place in 2019, two years after Monster Attack or Earth Defense Force 2017, and 6 years before Earth Defense Force 2025 or The Shadow of New Despair, though since 2025 is also a remake of Global Defence Force and does not acknowledge anything happening in 2019, it does not fit into the same continuity. It also features a multiplayer mode and a new English dub (the EU release of Global Defence Force had no speech). It is rated T for animated blood, mild language, and violence.
