Lucy and her husband attended a performance of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead in 1606. After the actors spoke some dialogue from William Shakespeare's Hamlet, Lucy's husband wondered aloud whether they'd seen the play already. Lucy admitted she couldn't remember for sure. When her husband commented that the king's furry robe would give her nothing to complain about on a cold night, she sniffed in response. Later, she and her husband had occasion to stare at Shakespeare himself when he laughed uncontrollably at a character's exclamation that he wasn't a person, he was an actor.
