Early in the Grey Worlds Campaign, it became obvious that the Confederate Navy lacked proper medical support during ground battles. Wounded were transported back to the landing crafts, but a lack of medical personnel meant that many had to be transported back to the main systems for treatment. In an effort to increase efficiency, the Navy ordered the development of a new medical vessel. The answer was the Larraman-class Medical Ship, named after a famous doctor, Dr. Piet Larraman. It was updated in 17 ABY to include an antimatter reactor and a BioComp.
