- Daniel Waters is the co-writer of Batman Returns.
- Daniel Waters is an American screenwriter and film director. Waters was hired by director Tim Burton after the script written by Sam Hamm for Batman II was disappointing for him. Waters wrote a totally new screenplay, with the initial return of the Harvey Dent (Billy Dee Williams) character. Dent would have been disfigured by Catwoman (Michelle Pfeiffer) during the climax of the film, when she kisses him with a taser to the face, turning him into Two-Face. The Harvey Dent character was eventually replaced by a new original one: Max Shreck. His script was finally rewrote by Wesley Strick.

Waters wrote the plot of The Penguin (Danny DeVito) running for mayor (this was even a plot for two episodes of the Batman 1960s series), and he characterized Selina Kyle as a very beaten down secretary. In one of his initial drafts, Waters originally conceived Shreck as a brother for the Penguin, the one who was treated as "the golden boy" by the Cobblepot Family, as opposed to Oswald that was treated like a monster. His script was finally rewrote by Wesley Strick. Other works of Daniel Waters include Heathers, Hudson Hawk and Demolition Man.
