Proton Squad was an elite clone commando unit of the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars. This team played a key role in the defeat of the Separatists by assassinating several CIS leaders and gathering intelligence on the enemies’ plans. But the squad ultimately defied Order 66, turned on their fellow clones, and saved the life of their Jedi General. The squad had several different members over the years, though 1543 was always the squad leader. One, the traitorous RC-1526, actually defected to the CIS.

In the years following the squad's betrayal of the Galactic Empire, the squad leader Toryc joined the Alliance to Restore the Republic. He later went on to serve the New Republic as a special forces trainer, and resurrected Proton Squad in the form of Sol'yc Be Te Tsad droten or Fist of the Republic. "FOTR" served the New Republic for many years afterward, and were an invaluable asset in the wars to come.
