The Regnum Invictorum Controversy refers to period when Invicta's full official name was "Regnum Invictorum," a bastardized Latin term meaning "Realm of Invicta" or "Realm of the Undefeated." The change was brought about by Jorost as part of a rebranding campaign aimed at improving the alliance's image. Unfortunately, Jorost did not heed the advice of the many, many people who thought this was a bad idea, and instead plowed ahead with the single-mindedness of a crazy man bent on flying the starship right into the heart of the sun. The change took effect on 9 April 2010, and was met with the expected mocking on the OWF, where it quickly became Rectum Invictorum.

The change took effect on 9 April 2010, and was met with the expected mocking on the OWF, where it quickly became Rectum Invictorum. One longtime and valued member of the alliance, Waltar, who had briefly served as Acting President of Invicta, resigned rather than change his AA to Regnum Invictorum. Although it remained the alliance's official name for several years to come, the use of the name Regnum Invictorum dropped precipitously after its introduction. This is widely believed to be the result of two factors:
* It was stupid
* Jorost moved on to something else Jorost himself has said that the Regnum Invictorum change was the biggest mistake of his time as active leader, and was happy to see it undone. On 7 January 2013 he announced the formal retirement of the unloved moniker: We have now spent a little over 1000 days on the Regnum Invictorum AA. Today the alliance is once again known only as Invicta.
