During a regular day in Kintobor's Laboratory, the Kintobor Computer informed Sonic the Hedgehog of Badnik activity in the Marble Garden Zone. Tails was absent and unable to fly Sonic to the Floating Island, so Sonic decided to use the new Hyper-Spring in the Emerald Hill Zone. Kintobor advised Sonic that the spring was untested but, with no other way of reaching the island, Sonic opted to risk it. The operation almost went fatally wrong when Amy Rose insisted on joining him, grabbing his foot moments after launching himself from the Hyper-Spring. Despite the extra weight, Sonic was barely able to grab onto the edge of the Floating Island and pulled them both up.
