| - There was an old man named Geri who went to the park to play chess but he discovers that he was on his own so he switches chairs like there 2 people but believe it or not it is just really him! In the game the other Geri playing black had won he game and the other Geri was joking by having a fake heart attack and the Geri playing black was worried that he might be like him but the other Geri who suffered a fake heart attack cheated by turning the chess board and he won! The team won an Academy award for best animated short film.
- An old man named Geri plays a game of chess in the park against himself. He starts off playing as white, but then hoists himself up, and lumbers over to play as the black opponent. He quickly dominates the game as the black side, although he is his own opponent. But just when the game's nearly over, White Geri (the one with the glasses) fakes a heart attack to outsmart Black Geri (the one with no glasses), and falls to the ground. This alarms Black Geri, and in turn, he tests his own pulse. While he is doing this, White Geri looks up, and flips the board around, inverting the players to their teams. He checkmates Black Geri, and makes him hand over a set of dentures as the prize. The movie ends with him giving a toothy grin, and the camera backs out, revealing that there is only one Geri.
- The film is set in an empty park during autumn, (though judging by the procession of shadows, the sun is north of the scene, - so it is actually set in the southern hemisphere, turning autumn into spring); the title character, Geri (voiced by Bob Peterson), plays a game of chess against himself ('becoming' each of the players in turn by moving to the other side of the chessboard and taking his glasses on and off). Pixar produced the film with the goal of exploring improved techniques in the rendering of humans and clothing, including the use of subdivision surfaces.
