Station Tunis is leased by the East Asian Federation from the government of Tunisia, in January 2008. The current base commander is Brigadier General Jun Yi. Approximately 1,200 uniformed personnel and 650 civilians are employed at the base, which plays host to the Northern Air Force's command apparatus. During the Arab Spring protests, it was used as a safe harbor for East Asian nationals in Tunisia. An agreement was reached with the provisional government of Tunisia to continue leasing the base.
