(SCE eBook: Distant Early Warning, VAN novel: Summon the Thunder) Starfleet officers, Lieutenants Mahmud al-Khaled and Isaiah Farber discovered that the signal was cyclical, repeating itself every 24 minutes. They likened it to a warning beacon or hail. With Captain Daniel Okagawa's approval, Lieutenant T'Laen responded to the signal, successfully terminating it and preventing further adverse affects to their systems.
