  • The Great War (sometimes called the Three Years' War) was a major global military war between 1756 and 1759, involving most of the great powers of the time. It spanned several continents, including Europe, North America, Central America, South America, the West African coast, India and the Philippines. The major North American war which had been fought alongside the Great War was King Louis' War from 1754–59. The war, lasting three years, had involved 3 major belligerents: the allies, the Austro-Russian alliance, and the United Kingdom. It ended in overall allied victory (consisting of France, Prussia et al) with the the Treaty of Paris in 1759. The war was characterised by sieges and arson of towns as well as open battles involving extremely heavy losses; overall, some 950,000 to 1,400,000 people died.
