Grinning like that is a neutral expression for Aizen. It doesn't mean anything. Plus Aizen was fighting Shinji at the time and had just pulled a "I am better then you" move on Shinji. The smile didn't need any cause other than that.

The smile didn't need any cause other than that. Tosen died at the hands of Hisagi. The sudden explosion and the cause of it was never explained. It has given rise to some speculation along to the lines of "Tosen was about to reveal something major!!!!" etc but that's just groundless crack theory. The most likely explanation of the spontaneous explosion is that as Tosen's body began to weaken, some reaction took place inside his heavily modified body (I mean seriously, he's a Shinigami with a resurrection) that caused it to explode. No one expected it, even Tosen didn't feel anything and was wanting to see Hisagi's face before he died. But Aizen, who was pre-occupied is Shinji, didn't have anything to do with it on the day.
