| - Demogorgon, although often ascribed to Greek mythology, is actually attributed to a fourth-century scholar, imagined as the name of a pagan god or demon, associated with the underworld and envisaged as a powerful primordial being, whose very name had been taboo. Some could say that Demogorgon, or at least the name Demogorgon, is synonymous with Satan. Indeed one, less accepted, theory suggests the name Demogorgon is a variation of Demiurge. This could very similar to how Satan is opposed to God.

- Demogorgon is one of the oldest and most powerful demon lords in the Abyss. His name commands fear, respect, reverence and hatred across the planes. Like most demon lords, he was once a primordial, but was twisted and turned into a demon by the power of the Abyss. He rules the 88th Layer of the Abyss, the Gaping Maw, an ocean with rock spire islands and a lush jungle continent, where his capital Lemoriax stands. His lair is two massive stone towers resembling coiled serpents, lined with spikes, and is said to extend down the the next level, where he meets with Dagon, his old ally.
- The safest approach to Demogorgon is not to meet him in the first place. As mentioned above, in vanilla NetHack, Demogorgon will not appear unless summoned, and Orcus, Juiblex, and Yeenoghu are the most likely creatures to do this. Therefore, when facing any of these foes, kill them as expeditiously as possible. If you get bogged down fighting lesser threats, you are giving Demogorgon an opportunity to arrive every turn.
