The Loyal Retainers were a group of warriors that remained loyal to their master, Lord Junai, even after he was executed by the Galactic Republic, for alleged corruption. From the planet of Najarka, the group was led by the chief warrior, Commander Kuranosuke, and his three captains, Hazama, Okajima, and Yogoro. The Retainers sought to kill the Supreme Chancellor and get vengeance against the Republic, to protect the honor of their slain Lord Junai. The Retainers embarked on a two-year campaign, known as the Najarka rebellion, in which they tried to conquer much of Republic space in the Outer Rim Territories. Their first fight, the Battle of Okyaab, resulted in the deaths of some 20,000 Republic Army troops, in exchange for 200—400 dead Retainers. This prompted a panic across the Republic,

This prompted a panic across the Republic, and the Republic military began to strike back, though with heavy losses. It estimated that they had a total strength of around 35,000 warriors, and the Republic committed a total of 220,000 troops to attacking them. The Retainers fought to the last man, and took some 85,000 Republic soldiers with them by the end of the rebellion.
