- Nagamasa Azai (浅井 長政, Azai Nagamasa) is the last head of the Azai clan, Oichi's husband, and acclaimed father of the Three Azai Sisters. He is best known in fiction for betraying the Oda by allying with the Asakura's revolt against Nobunaga. Current findings by researchers suggests that Nagamasa never formalized his alliance with Nobunaga –even with the political marriage– meaning that the trauma and personal guilt he allegedly suffered for his betrayal may have never occurred.
- Azai Nagamasa (浅井 長政, Nagamasa Azai) was the former 10th Division Captain of the Gotei 13 with his Lieutenant, Rangiku Matsumoto. Despite the feelings of sympathy accrued from his death, most if not all of his former colleagues would suggest that he had the biggest heart of them all. He was the most passionate warrior at the time; willing to put everything on the line for his duty and adhering to the law of Soul Society. After being put through his own, unique set of trials and tribulations involving renown figures of history such as Kirio Hikifune, Yoruichi Shihōin and Chōjirō Sasakibe he had stood as an exemplary character deserving of Captaincy.

He first appeared in the Samurai Warriors series as a unique non-playable character in its first entry. He became a playable character in Samurai Warriors 2. Fans voted him to twenty-eighth place in Gamecity's Sengoku Musou 3: Empires character popularity poll. For the Samurai Warriors 4 poll, he placed twenty-ninth. This counterpart shares a duet image song with his wife titled Tokoshie ni Saku Hana. His Nobunaga's Ambition counterpart is fifty-third place in Gamecity's character popularity ranking for 2015. The Nobunaga no Yabou 201X poll for 4-star officers puts him in thirty-fifth place.
It wasn't until a series of incidents that ultimately led to his downfall that he began to be looked upon as he truly was, a desperate and lonely individual: the death of his loved one, facing his own demons in Hollowfication, all the while dealing with the threats knocking on Seireitei's doorstep. All this coupled together over the course of a decade led to a honorable death while facing a certain Quincy, or so it seemed; the figure actually staging his death and living on under the scenes. To this day he is held with a tremendous sense of pride, Retsu Unohana regarding him highly and mourning the fact that such a talented warrior fell in such a manner. Nonetheless, he has pulled many strings and helped set the stage for the Winter War, supporting and cooperating with the Vizards to do so. Soul Society still believes him to be dead, but he lives on; Azai residing in the Human World in obscurity to all but the most intelligent and influential. Though he fears his return, he still fights to ensure the safety of those he left behind. Among the many regrets he has, not one gnaws at him more than the fact that he couldn't say goodbye to those he left behind.
