Kara-Meir took this opportunity to slip into the barn and kill the outlaws in the dark. Velko tried several times to hit Kara-Meir, but always missed and killed his friend and fellow outlaw Owen. He was the only outlaw to survive the massacre in the barn, being taken prisoner by Kara-Meir. On the way to Varrock, Velko pleaded to be set free, claiming that to go to Varrock would mean his death. Kara-Meir told him that Pia was braver than him and sent him on with Gar'rth.
