Valenko succeeded in that the vampire could stay in direct sunlight for several hours without significant burns, but he needed Valenko for supplies. As a result, he embraced him to have his supplies granted for all eternity. Valenko avenged himself by giving him the wrong ointment and watching as the Tzimisce burned away in the sun.
