Pierre Balmain (1914-1982) was a French fashion designer. He based his designs on the pillars of sophistication and elegance. He opened his own fashion house Balmain in 1945, where he focused on a dress with a large bell skirt and a small, tapered waist, which later became extremely popular. He is credited with popularizing the stole for day and eveningwear. He also created perfumes.
