While returning home after the mission, Reston was badly wounded by the Kaled Dome's automatic defence system's weapons fire. Not wanting to slow down Davros or be left behind for scavengers, he asked his friend to kill him. Davros, shocked that Reston was unwilling to survive, saw him as being weak and killed his friend.
