LaRue Martin is a retired American center. Martin played at Loyola (IL) at college (1969-1972). He then entered for the 1972 NBA Draft, being selected first overall. Martin was selected over Hall of Famers Bob McAdoo (2nd) and Julius Erving (12th). Martin only played four seasons in the NBA (1972-1976). In his third season, Portland drafted Bill Walton at 1st, and that basically killed LaRue off the roster two seasons later. The season after he retired was when the Trail Blazers won their first title.
