The King's Cross Station Anomaly apparently opened shortly after the Anomaly Research Centre team stopped the New Dawn Anomaly from ravaging the Earth. When a train disappeared at the station, the Minister alerted the ARC who were under impression that the New Dawn Anomaly had absorbed all the other Anomalies, and they theorised that the Anomalies would be closed forever. When they received news of the disappearance, they assumed another Anomaly had opened, and headed off to the station to deal with it. (Episode 5.6)
