The First Battle of Csilla was an engagement in the conquest of the Chiss Ascendancy between the Ascendancy's Defense Force and the Golden Empire's Royal Navy. Having sacked Kinoss and Cormit, the Royal fleet united at the Chiss capital world of Csilla. Having expected such an attack, the Chiss Syndic massed the CEDF at the capital while ordering more reinforcements from distant systems in the Ascendancy. Tariun Sakaros engaged the Chiss, but the battle was a sham from the start; he had no intention of capturing the planet at the time, or even defeating its fleet. Instead, he tested his nascent understanding of Chiss tactics, using fighter squadrons to bait the Chiss into dogfights and confirming what he had observed of them at Cormit. | - The First Battle of Csilla was an engagement in the conquest of the Chiss Ascendancy between the Ascendancy's Defense Force and the Golden Empire's Royal Navy. He also deployed his ships more haphazardly than normal, testing to analyze his enemy and to give the impression of poor command. The only major action by the Royal fleet was the decimation of offworld communication relays, which had the two advantages of actually preventing contact with other worlds and bolstering the impression that the Empire intended to invade. After a few hours of battle and the defeat of two reinforcement battle groups, however, he ordered a retreat.
