The Red Guardian Golem was a constructed my Mandis Menthur with the help of the instructions found in the ancient spellbook of Zervarithus. The golem was built inside a maze orb and was entirely made by red star crystal. Instead of using elemental spirits to animate the golem similar to the Gorgodonth, the golem used the spirit of the wielder of its control staff, which allowed Mandis to physically enter the golem and control it with the will of his soul. Being made of red star crystal, the golem greatly empowered the controlling spirit, even so much that it gave the spirit the power to dominate the minds of people wielding weapons or armour enchanted with the same red star gems. This was of course Mandis plan, as he indeed did so during the battle at Ashrin Crossing, forcing the Red Guard

  • The Red Guardian Golem was a constructed my Mandis Menthur with the help of the instructions found in the ancient spellbook of Zervarithus. This was of course Mandis plan, as he indeed did so during the battle at Ashrin Crossing, forcing the Red Guard with their enchanted equipment to fight for him. However, he had not foreseen the possibility of a second control staff, and when Lil appeared on the battlefield with such a staff, Mandis was forced out of the golem due to the two conflicting wills battling for control of the golem. Eventually, Mandis was killed, but the golem had taken too much damage when it was without a controlling spirit, and there was apparently power still left in it when Mandis had been forced outside. This uncontrolled power would cause the golem to explode, just like the Gorgodonth. The size of the explosion would have been many times larger than what had destroyed Ashrindale and would have had catastrophic effects for the entire Shores of Winter. Therefore, someone had to physically enter the golem and then take it into the Maze Orb where the explosion would not harm anyone... except for Lil, who was inside the golem.
