| - Narrator: It is just after midnight on the 7th night since the delvers left Polisberg. They are returning from a ruined dwarf fortress and have diverted to the south east to chase orc bandits who attacked a caravan. Narrator: It is the high Holy day of Sun and Travel. The delvers have made camp on a low hilltop, their north flank covered by a steep cliff. Beltarne is on watch. GM: First things first! Did anyone camoflauge the campsite? Ystävä: I can! GM: Also, Osgar needs to roll HT. Ystävä: Skill 12 Lyralen: I can, at skill-15. The hill you are on is denoted by the white line; the medium gray line is 2 yds below that, and the dark gray line is 2 yds below that. Don't fall off the cliff to the north! GM: Tree trunks block line of sight; branches give -4 to ranged or melee attacks, count as difficult terrain, and give 02 on all defenses. Beltarne: Should I be getting some benefit for my Night Vision 5 on that roll? Beltarne: Or no? GM: Nope, counted that in already. Beltarne: Kay GM: People are assumed to be sleeping with their helmets off. It takes 2 ready actions to put on a helmet. It takes 1 ready action to uncover a magically lit item. Lyralen: And your scout apparently picked the campsite on top of the hill, with no intervening cover, then placed nothing between you and any observers. Oh, and he put up a flag saying 'Delvers Here'. Beltarne: Nice of him, neh? GM: Would you prefer to be at the bottom of the hill? I can invert the direction of the elevation. Torvall: well i got healed for 8 by osgar, but afaik there was no wild magic roll for that Osgar: I healed Torvall for 8, was waiting to see if something else happened on the cast, then I was going to wait 5 min and heal Beltarne GM: no, nothing happened on the casting. Osgar: ok Osgar: Major Healing result: ?succeeded by 6 -1 FP GM: magic wackiness? result: ?failed by 2 » Osgar: Beltarne is healed by 8! GM: Still fine. GM: Still fine. GM: magic wackiness? result: ?succeeded by 0 » GM: oh, whatever. Beltarne: coughs lightly, spits out a clotted chunk of blood, and nods his thanks to Osgar. Bedlam: "Hmmm? Lyralen, I'm very tired." Beltarne: "Well, if they didn't know we were here before, they probably do now." Osgar: "You missed the whole fight, darn arrow to the face" Ystävä: "And they know not to be with the giving us the crap!" Osgar: the fire is out by now Ystävä: "The stupid goblins." Torvall: "I have a bit of a headache my self, friend." Osgar: "They may be dumb, but their archers are deadly accurate in the dark." GM: Doing anything else? Beltarne: Looting corpses. Osgar: our favorite hobby! Ystävä: Kicking goblin corpses in the head. Osgar: "Should we move camp?" Lyralen: "Deadly accurate? They must have missed me at least twice. They can't be *that* accurate." Torvall: ((It's not a hobby! It's a full time job!)) Beltarne: "They were pretty close to deadly accurate." Osgar: "You're hard to hit, they got two of us in the head!" Beltarne: rubs his cheek ruefully. Lyralen: "Well, we're all alive. That's the important part, right?" Lyralen: grins cheerfully. GM says to the GMs: 14 silver and 34 copper You say to the GMs: 14 silver and 34 copper Beltarne: mutters something under his breath and walks towards the corpses scattered around. Osgar: glowers grumpely Lyralen: preens a little. GM: The delvers find 14 silver and 34 copper, mostly on the big guy. They have 3 long spears, 3 axes, 3 cheap medium shields, 3 crappily made suits of leather armor. Lyralen: Survival for worgskins? Osgar: "Well, I guess that kind of counts as catching them at least." Osgar: "On to town in the morning" Torvall: "Im sure there are more..." Lyralen: pulls out his dirk and gets to work on the dead worgs. Osgar: "We moving the camp or do you think they won't come back?" Lyralen: "After that beating? I'd be surprised if the cowardly greenskins showed their faces within a mile!" Beltarne: "We should probably move." Beltarne: "Just in case." Osgar: "Maybe someplace not so good for thier bowmen and lancers" Beltarne: "Better safe than shot in the face with another arrow." Lyralen: "I'm sure that was just bad luck." java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: No group 2 error executing expression what =strformat("%{italicOpen}%{boldOpen}%{underlineOpen}%{what}%{underlineClose}%{boldClose}%{italicClose}"). GM: worg skins are worth $200 apiece and weigh 16 lbs. Lyralen: Dire Wolfs are also probably not terrible eating. Ystävä: "I showed the green skins with the stupid not to be with the crap giving. Hill is with the good, they are not with the stepping on us with the oopses in the dark." GM: semi-sentient carnivores? Gamey and greasy as hell, not particularly healthy either. Ystävä: Not "Terrible". Beltarne: Stew meat. Ystävä: Now gargoyles are terrible. Lyralen: Right, skinning them and leaving the meat here. Lyralen: Unless someone REALLY wants roast or stewed worg. Ystävä: Nah. But a warg skull/skin hat is suddenly very appealing. Beltarne: I'm good. Ystävä: Nice skin cape. Beltarne: I could go for some warg furs for winter, actually Ystävä: Very barbarian chiq GM: You guys have like 120 meals of giant crab, you want worg meat? Yuck. Beltarne: We need to viking up. Ystävä: No, I think we want hats and robes Lyralen: Trading one of the worgskins to have someone make Ystava a worgskin cape sounds like a great plan. Osgar: I'm betting we don't have any room for worg meat Beltarne: No worries, fur only. java.lang.IndexOutOfBoundsException: No group 7 error executing expression what =strformat("%{italicOpen}%{boldOpen}%{underlineOpen}%{what}%{underlineClose}%{boldClose}%{italicClose}"). GM: Dire Wolf-skin sleeping furs (properly cured, etc are worth $125 and count as sleeping furs with $75 of ornamentation) Beltarne: Dude, totally Ystävä: Soft and FLUFFY GM: You guys are at full capacity, unless Beltarne plans to trudge home wearing bloody wolf furs. Beltarne: And VIKING! Beltarne: I'll do it. Osgar: their values go down once you make them into sleeping furs? or can you get two per hide? Lyralen: Profitable trip. GM: 2 sleeping furs per pelt. Osgar: hmm, how much food do we eat per meal as a party, by weight? Ystävä: Uh, depends on the food GM: about 24 meals per day, not counting horse feed. So... 30 lbs if you finish off the normal meals before eating the fine and elven meals. Osgar: the cheap/heavy stuff first! Narrator: Another 16 lbs of horse meal/day. GM: Another 16 lbs of horse meal/day. Osgar: so we should have room from eating quickly, I can spend another 2 FP on the flying carpet to fit them until then GM: Okay... Osgar: it's free if the mana doesn't change by morning! GM: Heh. Narrator: Eventually the sun rises, on a cloudless, windless sky. It is the high holy day of Aberation and Good. Ystävä: Creepy. GM: What are you guys up to now? Lyralen: whistles a cheery tune. Ystävä: Eating, packing up camp... Beltarne: "We following the tracks further into the hills?" Lyralen: "I thought we were headed back to town?" Beltarne: "That works for me. We're at the point now where we'd have to leave valuable stuff behind." Osgar: "Lets go to town, they're faster than use mounted and we're almost overloaded here." Beltarne: "All in favor of back to town?" Beltarne: "Aye" Osgar: "Aye, back to town." Torvall: "Well, those goblin raiders did make off with a lot of stuff from that caravan...possibly human prisoners as well." Beltarne: groans and closes his eyes. Beltarne: "Shite." Beltarne: "Thoughts?" Lyralen: ((How far out from town are we?)) Osgar: "What makes you think they took prisoners?" Ystävä: "They with the goblins and the eating of the soft peoples." GM: It took you about 2 days of back and forth walking to get here. Torvall: "How many corpses did we find at the raid site?" GM: None. Torvall: "Thus they have prisoners...or food." Osgar: I thought there were some burned ones with the wagon? GM: You guys have heard rumors of bandit slavers operating out of the hills around here, you know. Beltarne: "We stash the rock here, we pursue the raiders, rescue the prisoners, and retrace our steps to here?" GM: okay, maybe a few corpses. I don't think I specified. Ystävä: There was two I thnik Ystävä: not enough for that caravan. Osgar: "How about we head to westwatch, stow the stuff there and get some help tracking them, I think we are close" Osgar: how close are we to the westwatch? Ystävä: "I have with the tracking. Not lost!" Lyralen: checks his maps. GM: The Westwatch is nominally about 1/2 days march from Polisberg: the militia can muster i the morning, destroy anything east of it, and be back in town by dark. Osgar: navigation to find out? we're not too far from the road yet? GM: Lyralen can see the road if he flies up, about a mile away to the north. Lyralen: "I think we should be getting authorities involved somehow, certainly." Lyralen: "The road's only a mile away. We should be able to the Westwatch, and get extra help." Ystävä: frowns. Torvall: I will abide by what the group choses, but any extra time is time for them to get further away and kill or eat the prisoners." Torvall: willing* Osgar: "We can trakc them but we're not going to catch them with our load, and I'm not in favor of leaving it on the plains for them to double back and steal, which is exactly the kind of thing they'll do." Beltarne: "I don't think we can afford the time to backtrack." Torvall: "My vote is to go after the goblins. If I'm out voted I will go along." Beltarne: "Much as it pains me to say this, I think our best shot is to stash the ore somewhere." Ystävä: "I want with the goblins smashing." Lyralen: "Right, then. We'll cache the ore somewhere we can come back for it, and track the goblins down." Osgar: "Westwatch is the only place close that is secure. They're skilled trackers and will find a pit easily." Osgar: we are on the plains, right? GM: You're in the hills right this morning, cutting southeast from the plains. Beltarne: Find a cluster of trees that's distinctive or something. Beltarne: Bury it at the base. GM: Also, you're not 100% sure that the Westwatch militia is entirely honest. Beltarne: Shit. Ystävä: has a great sense of direction. Find a cluster of trees that AREN'T distinctive. Osgar: "I can find it wherever we bury it, lets just look for somewhere you can't tell if someone has dug recently" Beltarne: Okay. Beltarne: "Sounds like a plan. Maybe somewhere we can collapse some dirt on it from an overhang" GM: Also, the mana level returns to normal before dawn. Osgar: "Bah, I'll use shape earth to make a hole that goes down at an angle, if they dig with shovels they'll never find it" Lyralen: "That's an excellent plan." Beltarne: "Sounds good. Lets move, times a wasting." Lyralen: "...Why not use shape earth to extract the metal from the dross? That might reduce the weight." GM: Doesn't work, we discussed this already. Lyralen: Oh. Sorry. Osgar: "For the same reason I didn't do that before!" GM: No worries. Osgar: "It won't work!" Lyralen: "I must have forgotten." Osgar: "Alright, I guess if you lot are set on haring off after them, lets get to it. Get all the ore ready to dump in the hole after I open it." Ystävä: stands ready with his shovel. Osgar: "Hmm, dig a shallow one over someplace else, and get a harse blanket ready for the bit of dirt the same size as the ore." Osgar: "We'll put it over on the fake hole like we're tarrible at this." Lyralen: gets a blanket ready. Beltarne: complies. Narrator: The delvers bury their loot and continue southeast after the orcs.
