He has composed and synthesized scores for several Japanese television shows and animated series. Toshio was taught to play the guitar by his cousin and was in a band in high school. He participated in an Osaka concert in 1974 and from there, he traveled to live houses for more exposure. It was in 1976 that he won an award for "Brother on ’A’ Water" and debuted with that song in 1978. His first single came in 1979, titled "Good Bye". Masuda is perhaps best known as the composer of the 2001 hit anime series Naruto where he combined traditional instruments like the shamisen and shakuhachi together with guitar, drums, bass, piano and other keyboard instruments along with chanting. The soundtrack to Naruto Shippuden, the sequel to Naruto, was not composed by Masuda, but instead by Yasuharu Takanashi.
