- The competition began on August 2, 1955, when the Soviet Union responded to the US announcement four days earlier of intent to launch artificial satellites for the International Geophysical Year, by declaring they would also launch a satellite "in the near future". The Soviet Union beat the US to this, with the October 4, 1957 orbiting of Sputnik 1, and later beat the US to the first human in space, Yuri Gagarin, on April 12, 1961. The race peaked with the July 20, 1969 US landing of the first humans on the Moon with Apollo 11. - The Space Race was a competition between the United States of America and the Soviet Union. During this period, almost all of history's space travel developments were made. This competition lasted from 1957 to 1975.
- Space Race is a Game that the User has loaded into Mainframe. It is a race through space in one man space craft. The User is a red space craft with no visible pilot. The other players fly white space craft. At the beginning everyone takes off from a space born aircraft carrier. They fly through an asteroid field, and have to fight off each other the entire way. Then they arrive at a planet and have to get passed a battleship in orbit. On the planet they enter a frozen cave and get to a prize at the end of the race. First one their wins.

In 2375, Captain Kathryn Janeway claimed the crew of the USS Voyager, who was in the midst of building the Delta Flyer, had an "old fashioned space race" on their hands when they discovered the Malon were also building a spacecraft that could survive a voyage into the atmosphere of a gas giant.
