Jerry Manuel was the Mets' manager from 2008-2010. He replaced Willie Randolph as manager after Randolph was fired in June of 2008. After presiding over a successful turnaround during 2008 in which the Mets finished one game away from the playoffs for the second year in a row, Manuel was given a two-year contract extension. However, after an extremely disappointing 2009 season in which the Mets, who were preseason favorites to win the National League East Division, finished with a 70-92, Mets fans began demanding for the firing of both Manuel and GM Omar Minaya. Both men, however, returned to their respective positions in the 2010 season. The Mets finished the season with a 77-85 record, and Manuel and Minaya were subsequently released from the organization.
