A veteran of the Hosianisch-Demokratisches Verbund, Hulstria and Gao-Soto's "natural party of government" and a scion of the Goddestreu family (descended from 2nd post-Septembrist Governor-General Sebastian Goddestreu), Goddestreu had a long record of service in the politics of the Crownlands before being elected as Governor-General, serving successively as Minister-President of Crownland Hulstria, Vice-Ministerpräsident of that Crownland, Minister of Internal Affairs, Minister of Foreign Affairs and HDV Party Chairman. From 3574 to 3585, he was the Deputy Leader of the HDV under Anne Nishimura. Considered a Schallist, Goddestreu's domestic policies combine communitarianism and social Hosianism, placing him left-of-centre in terms of the HDV's internal politics. As Foreign Minister, he strived to combine pragmatism and idealism in foreign politics; notably, he got into conflict with Staatsminister Maeko Yanagimoto when the HSP leader advocated full unilateral nuclear disarmament, probing him to say that "... if I weren't on the out already, I would resign." Goddestreu is an advocate for Septembrism and moderatism, having hit out multiple times at the extremes of both wings of the Hulstrian and Gao-Showan political system. In terms of style, Goddestreu takes after the dry wit of his forefather Sebastian Goddestreu, most notably in his mastery of polite irony, which he showed when he somewhat ironically offered polite thanks to the HSP for their concern with the HDV's unity following the divisive 3585 leadership contest. In 3607, Goddestreu was ennobled by Emperor Otto of Hulstria upon request of the Imperial Diet as Bürggraf Goddestreu zu Alt-Kien for his services as Governor-General and his commitment to freedom and democracy in the Crownlands. He died peacefully in his sleep in December 3616.
