Mr. Kevin Volley, the oldest surviving North Western Railway employee, was born in Ffarquhar in 1903 and joined the railway as a lad/porter at Knapford in 1915. He was promoted to porter in 1921 and was later made booking clerk of Elsbridge in 1927. He was given the position of stationmaster at Ffarquhar in 1936, Knapford in 1956, and Cronk in 1960. He retired at the age of 65 and is living out his life in Ffarquhar. He's described as "a sprightly old gentleman with a fund of reminiscence about early days on the Ffarquhar Branch."
