Hop the fence is a relatively simple trick, that can be tried, once you can do Throw Down. It is what is called a regeneration, because the yo-yo is accelerated again and again by slinging it over your throw hand, without catching it. This is a good exercise to prepare for learning Loop the Loop. Unlike Loop the Loop, the yo-yo does not turn around. That is why you have to jump back and forward, so the yo-yo always unwinds away from your throw hand.

| - Step 4: ...over your throw hand, towards you. The slinging motion pulls on the string, and starts the yo-yo spinning in the opposite direction.
- This video shows somthing similar. Although the video calls it Hop the Fence, it is actually some downwards Loop the Loops. These always hop from back to front, thus twisting the string!
- Step 10: ...to come back again.
- Step 11: This time bring your hand forward...
- Step 12: ...slinging the yo-yo again...
- Step 14: Forward and...
- Step 15: ...down again.
- Step 5: Sling it...
- Step 6: ...down...
- Step 7: ...down...
- Step 9: ...causing the yo-yo...
- Step 13: ...over your hand. This is the same slinging motion as in steps 3 through 5, only this time away from you.
- Step 8: ...and, shortly before it reaches the end of the string, tug upwards on the string...
- Step 3: ...carry it around your hand. Jerk your hand downwards a little, slinging the yo-yo...
- Step 2: ...but pull your hand backwards, and let the yo-yo's inertia...
- Step 1: Do a Throw Down. When you bring the yo-yo back up, do not catch it,...
- Step 16: Once again pull on the string, and repeat from step 1, or catch like from a Throw Down.
See how many times you can do this in a row. Unlike a Loop the Loop, the string does not twist, so theoretically you can do this forever. :-)
