  • Omphalos (オムロバス) is a demon in the series.
  • In geology, Omphalos refers to a Bible-based scientific theory of a young age for the Earth, proposed by English writer Philip Gosse in the 1850s, and disregarded by most people almost immediately after it came out.
  • Omphalos was a planet teeming with a number of different living organisms. In 22 BBY, the Confederacy of Independent Systems attempted to test the superweapon known as the Planet Killer on Omphalos. However, Mace Windu was able to disable the Planet Killer before the superweapon could be activated.
  • The Omphalos was a "bullet-shaped" stone artifact considered to be at the heart of the Oracle at Delphi. It was thought to mark the earth's "navel" - the translation of the word in Greek - and able to provide visions of the future.
  • In 1857, Philip Henry Gosse published Omphalos: An Attempt to Untie the Geological Knot , in which he attempted to reconcile Young Earth Creationism with the abundant geological evidence of deep time that had been discovered in his day. This hypothesis is irrefutable, yet monumentally pointless, and to many critics, it implies divine fraudulence.

abstract
  • Omphalos (オムロバス) is a demon in the series.
  • In 1857, Philip Henry Gosse published Omphalos: An Attempt to Untie the Geological Knot , in which he attempted to reconcile Young Earth Creationism with the abundant geological evidence of deep time that had been discovered in his day. He proposed that the Universe runs in cycles, and that God thus had to create it in the middle of its cycles, thus the appearance of great age. The title of his book is the Greek word for navel, and it was inspired by the conundrum of whether or not Adam and Eve had had navels, since they had not been born in the usual way. He proposed that God had created Adam and Eve as if they had been born in the usual way, navels and all. He extended that hypothesis to the huge quantities of geological evidence of deep time, going into gory detail into his book. Volcanic eruptions, glacier sandpapering of rock, fossils, tooth marks on bones, footprints, ..., even coprolites, fossil excrement. A present-day successor would add discussions of radiometric dating, molecular-evolution "molecular clocks", stars and galaxies and their great distances, and lots of other more recent discoveries that imply great age. This hypothesis is irrefutable, yet monumentally pointless, and to many critics, it implies divine fraudulence.
