  • Silkworm is a Magnus in Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean.
  • The silkworm is the larva or caterpillar of the domesticated silkmoth, Bombyx mori (Latin: "silkworm of the mulberry tree"). It is an economically important insect, being a primary producer of silk. A silkworm's preferred food is white mulberry leaves (monophagous). Domestic silk moths are closely dependent on humans for reproduction, as a result of millennia of selective breeding. Wild silk moths are different (having not been selectively bred) to their domestic cousins; they are not commercially viable in the production of silk.
  • When first placed, the silkworm will be grey by default (as in it will give Silk Thread - Grey. In order to change it's colour, it needs to be fed. Depending on the food, it will change the colour slightly (i.e. feeding it a Blueberry will make it slightly more blue but it's colour will not be blue unless it is fed more). For the first 48 hours, the Silkworm will not produce any silk. If the silkworm is of a pure colour (e.g. blue), it will produce that colour thread (i.e. Silk Thread - Blue. To remove a Silkworm's sick status, cure it using an Antidote.

abstract
Sericulture, the practice of breeding silkworms for the production of raw silk, has been underway for at least 5,000 years in China, from where it spread to Korea and Japan, and later to India and the West. The silkworm was domesticated from the wild silkmoth Bombyx mandarina, which has a range from northern India to northern China, Korea, Japan, and the far eastern regions of Russia. The domesticated silkworm derives from Chinese rather than Japanese or Korean stock. Silkworms were unlikely to have been domestically bred before the Neolithic age; before then, the tools required to facilitate the manufacturing of larger quantities of silk thread had not been developed. The domesticated B. mori and the wild B. mandarina can still breed and sometimes produce hybrids.
The Silkworm must be constantly fed with food and water everyday. If it has a Hungry or Thirsty status for too long, it will become sick. Gruel and Water are the only items which can be used which will not change the Silkworm's colour, but any other food will change the Silkworm's colour slightly. Silkworms live for a maximum of 20 days. To remove a Silkworm's sick status, cure it using an Antidote. The amount of Silk Threads a Silkworm will produce is between 1-10 and can be absolutely random (not dependent on how much it is fed).
