John Edward Mead (born October 4, 1923) is a former American politician and lawyer who is regarded as one of the patriarchs of the powerful Mead family of Huron, serving two terms as the Nationalist Governor of Huron (1971-1975 and 1979-1983). His son, Peter, served as Governor of Huron from 1987 until 1991, and his nephew Patrick served as Governor from 2003-2007. John Mead also served as the Commerce Secretary during Elizabeth Shannon's second term and was the Ambassador to Portugal under Robert Redford.
